Ode to Texas Wine

A warm ray of sunshine

Dances across my glass

You swirl and reveal

Each layer of luscious purple-tinged crimson

A bouquet of violets and lavender

Weather-worn Oak

A tale of extremes

The story of a dream

We are in the crunchy, water-starved grass

Under the shade of the old Live Oak

Looking out at the rolling blue hills

In the land where an educator gathered the strength

To bring a nation together

To transform society, for the better

Where Bluebonnets spring forth

Year after year

No matter what they endured

Where passionate people

Build the things they envision

Manifest their zest for life

To share with their neighbors

In the land where my grandparents, my parents, my children

In the land where I

Grow and give

And memories can't contain themselves

As we chart new trails

Time stops

Time marches on

In my glass, in my body

It is all there

The warmth of the sun

The shade of the tree

The wildflowers

Those majestic blue hills

A sprawling sunset

A neighbor's generosity

A life's work

A shared dream

The love of community

It is all there

A little bit of magic

In each sip
